The sentence took three more seconds to complete
But why was that look on your face incomplete?
The frown on your face did say it all
My tongue betrayed me again, once and for all.
I know stuttering for you is a shame
But what to do in my case there is none to blame.
Growing up being a stutterer wasn't easy for a child
You had to face taunts that weren't so mild
From being prevented to attend seminars
to being rejected for the assembly speech
I had seen it all.
From speaking to myself in the mirror
to keeping a candy in my mouth while I speak
I had probably tried it all.
But anyways what could have been done
By no means I could have fixed my tongue.
But it does hurt,
Not when a stranger mocks at you or your benchmate imitates you.
But it hurts when a loved one just asks out of the blue
Do you still stammer? As if they have no clue
But I still reply with a smile as if everything is fine
Because I have learnt to stay strong, move on and fake a smile...
