Every time I get an idea in my head to write, I don't understand how to start. I black out. The next thing I remember is the two feet eight inch me calling for my father. Yeah. Load shedding was a part of our daily time- table back in the days. 8 to 9 PM and beyond. You could find us in a circle in the lawn in our backyard. The moment Appa sat down, his lap became my pillow. (It's a convention to this day). He'd tell me about how our ancestors came to live in this village almost a thousand years ago. From Andhra Pradesh. Some days it'd be about his father and his school days. On others, he'd narrate how Amma was his final choice after twenty two others. Even while keenly listening to all of this, I'd always be curious to know which star would finally win the moon to his side. Some were dull. Some wore Diwali lights. A few even did fireworks, shot themselves across the sky and foolishly fell down.

These days, the 24/7 power supply has taken the charm, the moon away. And something has taken my moon away from me. I turn off the lights, fall on my bed and zoom in to her closed eyes in my favourite picture.

फिर क्यूं जिस कोख़ से जन्म लेती वहां की मेहमान है बेटी!
फिर क्यूं उस घर की पहचान बनती जिस घर से अनजान है बेटी!!!👸👭👨‍👩‍👧

बीते लम्हों की कसक सदा याद आएगी मुझको
बेइंतहा थी मुहब्बत , यह बतलाएगी मुझको

कैसे कटती है अब तनहा ये रात कोई पूछो मत
बस करो मुझसे अब वो मुलाक़ात कोई पूछो मत

मोहब्बत का दर्द किसी आशीकसे पुछो
महंगाई में कम पडनेवली आमदनी से पुछो।

तेरी हालात ही पूछता हूं दिल की धड़कनों से,
आवाज अगर नहीं सुनी ह़ो तो पूछ लो यादों से!!

उल्फ्ते आदिल का एहसास ना पूछ ऐ बंदे
दरियादिली कि कोई सीमा नहीं होती,
और,
जो इश्क़ में पर जाए,
खुदा भी उसे ठीक नहीं कर सकता...!
