Yesterday, I was travelling from Bhavnagar to Mahuva. Summer vacations having being started there was a heavy rush.
Two girls, perhaps in their twenties, were sitting on the seats reserved for women, which were preoccupied by two men before they arrived. Claiming to their right of reserved seats they got their share.
Around 25 minutes later, an old man entered with crutches. There was not a single empty seat. Not having a seat myself, I couldn't help him. No-one was giving up his seat for him. I, standing near them, asked the two girls if one of them could help him, as they were physically good enough to travel standing. They replied that it's their right to sit there and why should they give it up.
Why don't we think of fulfilling our social responsibilities before claiming our rights? Have we become so inhuman that we cannot give up our comforts and rights for someone more needy?
I wonder...
