Great relations are like banks, like disaster funds.
You invest your efforts, energy, love in them.
They grow multifold.
One day, when needed you can
take away the interest earned,
the amount just lies there.

For the one who is celebrating birthday...

You don't grow by years,
it is just a number.
You grow when someone
hurts you,
and you can let it go.

You grow every time
you have butterflies in stomach
and yet show up.

You grow by challenges and experiences.
May you keep growing and enjoying
the victory...

that gravity is not all-powerful.
Irrespective of its pull
you can still soar up and float.

Irrespective of all my flaws,
I can still take efforts and succeed.

Reading

I have seen quite a few readers who are done with Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, Dickens in their childhood. There are a few who explored philosophies and spirituality literature before they knew where it fits. Definitely it has helped them at some point, I want to believe that. I have grown up reading Indian religious texts when children read comics. And explored Dalit literature in the age of Nancy Drew reader.
Now I think you have to go step by step in your reading journey. Else you miss a lot. When you read something you are not mentally ready for, it doesn't go well. Like every other thing, foundation is required in reading. Sadly reading is a lonely, self-exploratory practice and one needs to hop everywhere to know her rightful book for the right time, though it's relative.

When I read that Emily Dickinson has published only 10 out of her 1800 poems in her lifetime, I was astonished. Rest of her poems were published in several years after her death. It's like thousands of oysters remaining unopened, hiding pearls inside.
Having talent and being recognized for it are two different things. Please don't think that the one is inevitable with the other. Please don't doubt yourself. Have faith and trust your abilities. And keep trying.
The most important thing is what we think of ourselves and how we keep going. Not where we reached.

Often my quotes are not meant to be quotes to read. They are my thoughts, like little islands I find on my journey. The rougher the journey, the more tiny islands aka plenty of quotes.
They are my lessons, my epiphanies, my realizations and my 'aha!' moments.

These are my ways to convince myself, to suggest, to pat my own back, and rejoice for some treasure discoveries when least expected.
At times, these are messages for my loved and not-so-loved people, some I can talk but most I can't, not in these words because they won't understand this. But you, my dear readers, if you feel connected, if you find it resonating within, you are my companions. And that sole purpose, it makes me write whatever I can.
