I lay awake,
my eyes wide open,
looking in space, yet
not seeing anything in particular.
Blurring and in focus,
I take in all of the darkness,
afraid to close eyes,
for the dark inside
is darker than
any night they've seen.
The games continue,
till my eyes lose the match
against the night,
too tired to delve into
the night within,
and that's the only way
I find some sleep.

The fire that used to give warmth,
Now only burns from the core.
The shine which was once light of hope,
Now only burns the eyes.
To calm, people can only give ice,
But it won't suffice.
I wish I can rewind,
And undo what has been done.
Or erase your dimple Wali smile
From my mind.
