Caught up in a cosmetic world
only a mental postmortem
taught me if we would have learnt
to shave our egos,
we could have salvaged
our union from metamorphosing into
the monster it corrosively became.

It's not the person who's to blame...
Some relationships are just too toxic!!
They corrupt your heart and emotions...at first
But, their existence corrodes your soul as well

The coffee shop
was filled to the brim
with new lovers
and old cynics;
former using the coffee
as an excuse
to know someone better
while the latter
used the corrosive dregs
as a crutch
to forget people
they thought they knew.

The strange, vaguely familiar face
smiled at me wearingly
in a defeated sort of way,
resigned to his assigned fate,
age lines disappearing
in folds of sagging flesh,
only to virulently reappear
as deep seismic fault lines.
I stepped away from the mirror,
needing a corrosive liquid as a crutch
to confront my corroded reflection.

Relationship decisions,
emotionally draining,
always religiously followed
by the dreaded thought,
'Did I make the right move?'
These possibly scarring crossroads
should have a 'Save for later' option,
for seemingly reasoned navigation,
(just like those shopping websites)
so you don't spend corrosive hours
contemplating about the wrong path taken.
